Personal vision

I want to live a successful carefree lifestyle free of stress, anxiety, anger, and sadness. I want to be able to work from home because public communication makes me uncomfortable. Working from home could be beneficial to me because I get to work in a space where I feel most comfortable and if there were to be customer interaction, it would be through call or chat. Things that I see in other people that i admire is cleanliness and organization because I’m working on being more organized. One major life goal of mine is to buy my own house and renovate it to a 80's theme decor. I want to master drawing, I want to learn how to draw realistically and learn how to paint. I really like to do art and I draw on my own sometimes.

Reflective Essay

I think a high self-esteem is really important to have because it’s always a good feeling to feel like you love yourself and to feel like you’re somebody who is important and deserves the best. At times my self-esteem is low but I do remain positive most of the time so it’s easy for me to bring my self-esteem up. Being bullied can bring your self-esteem down by a lot and that’s one reason why some kids have trouble accepting themselves. I’ve been bullied all through middle school and at that point, I was at one of the lowest stages in my life. I believed what they told me and that brought my self confidence down a good amount, I was scared to go back to school because it was the same thing everyday. At the same time, being bullied taught me to ignore the negative things people say about me and that helped because I grew to love myself. It also gave me more confidence because as time went on, I noticed that I started to grow into my face and I was finally able to call myself pretty and feel good about myself.

Writing used to be a challenge for me when I was in elementary school. Over the years of school I have learned how to become a better writer and I started to improve my writing skills. I like to share my thoughts because it's easy to write down what you think instead of conjuring something in your head. Listening used to be an issue for me, it kind of still is especially now because our classes are online and I’m at home all the time, it's easy to get distracted when watching something through a computer screen. I continue to try to have better listening skills and be more attentive when I’m in class. It’s easier than it sounds, there is a possibility I could have ADHD, but I guess we’ll never know.

I am probably the most indecisive person I know. It’s hard for me to make decisions when there are so many options to choose from. It’s like I want all of them but I can’t have all of them and I try to figure out how I can finesse and get all of them. Decision making is definitely something that I’ve gotten better at, I noticed I make decisions a lot faster than I used to. Every time I have to pick between certain things, I ask myself: Do you really need them all? When it comes to problem solving, I think I’m a total wiz at it. I’m always trying to figure something out and when there’s a problem I come up with a solution pretty quickly. Strategy is really good to have when you’re problem solving because you have to use your resources and words wisely.

I really like doing group work because I’m not working by myself, I have other classmates to work with and if I have questions I can ask them and they’ll help me out. I think I do contribute when it comes to group work mostly because I don’t want to make my other group members feel like they’re doing all the work for the team. It isn’t fair to put the work on other people and not even try to help with the assignment/activity. I really like working in diverse groups because it’s cool to see/meet new people and get to know others better. I am a part of a diverse group myself because I’m a black female so it’s fun to me to get to know people from other diverse groups. I am a people person, I personally think I get along with people really well, depending on the person.

I use technology a lot on a day to day basis. I apply technology to everything in life, what would I do without technology, am I right? Technology is very useful for many basic reasons such as: directions, telling the time, contacting, looking stuff up, online interactions with other people, etc. We can basically use technology for anything, nothing is impossible on the internet...if you put your mind to it. I use technology for school sometimes if I need it to join a zoom, or email my teachers, etc. Technology can be applied to anything.

This is the intro paragraph to the unit essay I had to do for English, it's based on the book Their Eyes Were Watching God. I've never scored a B before on any of the other essays I submitted for this class and our teacher is kind of a strict grader so the fact that I got a B made me feel very proud of myself.

Throughout the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, one of the main characters, whose name is Janie, is searching for love and a true sense of independence. Janie is a strong independent woman who most would call a feminist because of her firm belief that no sex is above the other. Janie has been beaten, silenced, taken advantage of, marginalized, and ignored but this all has helped her to grow and become a smarter person. Janie has had 3 husbands, Logan, Jody, and Tea Cake, who she each learned a specific lesson from that helped her better recognize her self worth, be more independent, and helped strengthen her identity as a feminist.

Internship

For my internship, I volunteered at an animal shelter called FAAS (pre-covid). Every Saturday I'd supervise the Cat Experience room which is a room designated for visiting and interacting with some if the cats and kittens at the shelter. Here are a couple journal entries:

Journal Entry #1

First day on the "job" was a meeting with other staff teaching us the rules and requirements to be a volunteer. Everything is pretty self explanatory and I think I will catch on pretty fast. My first time in the cat experience was great because there were so many kittens and it's like they all gravitated towards me. Call me Halona the cat whisperer. I got to interact with people interested in adopting and I actually helped them with bonding with the kitten, it's such a unique experience. I truly feel like the kittens were waiting for my arrival because when I'd walk into the Cat Experience, they'd all jump on my lap and sleep in a cat pile. I was a little sad when one of the other volunteers took them off my lap and gave them to the visitors because I love their company. My shift was only three hours long and after those 3 hours, another volunteer would come in and take over.

Journal Entry #4

Today would be my 5th day volunteering at FAAS and it keeps getting better and better. now instead of supervising the Cat Experience, I get to take some of the older cats into a separate room and play with them. It's so cute to see them running around playing with the laser and other toys, they look so happy. The older cats are kept separate from the kittens in 2 story cages in the lobby so they don't really interact with people that often unless they're looking to adopt. Another thing is they added bunnies! They're so cute and come in so many different unique patterns. I really like the white bunnies, their red eyes make them look scary so I had to get used to them because part of me was scared they were going to bite me. Some of the bunnies were shy and stayed in their little wooden houses but it was fun to interact with them slowly and gain their trust.
